Chloe Webb, who led the California Baptist University women’s basketball team to the WAC regular season and tournament titles and the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament, has signed the program’s first ever Name Image Likeness (NIL) deal with University Credit Union, a non-profit financial institution.

“I am so excited to be one of the first student-athletes to have this amazing opportunity (to) help promote financial well-being within my community,” said Webb, a senior who recently declared for the WNBA Draft.

Focused on financial wellness in partnership with University Credit Union, the deal is a unique partnership that will go beyond endorsement and aims to financially educate students and student-athletes.

“For us, this agreement is more than a promise,” said Dr. David Tuyo II, the CEO and President of University Credit Union. “Our new relationship with Chloe represents our deeper commitment to providing students with the financial advantage they need to succeed in all areas of life. I can’t wait to see what she does next.”

Webb, voted the WAC Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, led the Lancers with 21.1 points and 8.0 rebounds per game this season in 32 appearances.

She finished 14th in Division I in points per game, and is the only draft-eligible player to average more than 20 points and eight rebounds per game. Of the 89 players declared for next week’s draft, only five players averaged more points per game.

Webb was the only Lancer to play more than 1,000 minutes this season, leading the team in three-point percentage (36.7) and steals (77).

The WNBA Draft will take place on Monday, April 15, at 4:30 p.m. PDT. It will air nationally on ESPN from New York.

“I think UCU is a great NIL partner because not only do we share the same values, but I get to represent everything they provide to support students, faculty and university staff,” Webb said.

University Credit Union is the financial services partner of the Western Athletic Conference and is the title sponsor of the annual WAC softball and baseball conference tournaments in May.

Founded on UCLA’s campus by faculty and staff in 1951, University Credit Union currently serves more than 50,000 members.

BETTEN NOTCHES 400TH WIN

Cal Poly Pomona baseball coach Randy Betten recently earned his 400th career collegiate victory.

The Highland native and former Angels minor leaguer and Riverside City College, CBU and UC Riverside assistant, Betten became the fastest coach to reach the milestone with a 5-4 win in the first half of a doubleheader at Stanislaus State on Saturday.

The coach’s son, Beau Betten, had two hits and helped push across the winning run when a dropped third strike went his way in the ninth inning for the Broncos (19-13 overall, 15-9 CCAA), who have won six consecutive and sit in third place behind Cal State San Marcos (18-9) and Cal State Monterey Bay with less than one month remaining in the regular season.

The only other Cal Poly Pomona coach with as many wins is John Scolinos, who reached 400 wins in 737 games. It took Betten just 655.

UCR SOFTBALL SWEEPS

An up-and-down season reached a high point over the weekend as the UC Riverside softball team earned a series sweep over UC Davis at Amy S. Harrison Field.

Vista Murrieta grad Briza Blanco earned her fourth win of the year with a four-hit shutout as the Highlanders (11-21 overall, 4-7 Big West) topped the Aggies on Saturday, April 6.

Coming off a five-game losing streak – including three straight at Cal State Fullerton – the sweep helps UC Riverside stay clear of the bottom of the Big West standings.

Freshman Elise Nishimura had two RBIs in each of the final two games of the series against UC Davis and now is batting .277 with seven RBIs.
