Dr. Marv Nottingham died at age 98. A native of Big Horn, Wyoming, he was a much loved and respected father of four, educator and administrator, author, skin diver, mentor to many, and a WWII vet.At 19, on Iwo Jima, he received a bronze star for valor. He was one of the last living survivors of that battle and it had a profound impact on his life. Marv’s book, “Once a Cowboy” was to tell his kids about war, “but war ran out” and it became a memoir. He also wrote “Victor and Connections To Pacific Spiny Lobster” and “Principles for Principals.”After the war, he earned a BS from the University of Colorado, a Masters in Ed. Admin. from San Diego University and a doctorate in Education from USC.Marv taught chemistry, physics, and math and became Vice Principal at Coronado High School in San Diego where he learned his love for skin diving from his students. He was the principal of Hemet High and Palm Springs High. He was Area Superintendent for the Norwalk-La Mirada School District. Marv became a professor of Ed. Admin. at USC and then a Dept Chair at the University of Idaho.After 40 years, Marv retired to Hemet. He served as President of the Education Foundation, President of the Retired Teachers Association, and served on the boards of HCA and SAGE. He spent the last 2 decades of his life devoted to Valley Restart Homeless Shelter which shows his commitment to social justice and quality of life for all individuals.Marv will be missed by many, especially his wife, Peggy; daughters Marilyn Robertson (Curt), and Lori Sloan (Jim); son Jim Nottingham (Robyn); and stepdaughter Andrea Kissack (Nancy).
