Etiwanda’s Kennedy Smith among CIF Southern Section girls basketball players of the year

Smith was chosen the Open Division Player of the Year after helping the Eagles win the division championship for the second time in three seasons.

Etiwanda senior forward Kennedy Smith was among the 10 girls basketball players chosen divisional players of the year when the CIF Southern Section released its honors for the 2023-24 season.

Smith, who is headed to USC, was selected the Open Division Player of the Year after helping the Eagles win that division championship for the second time in three seasons. She also was chosen the Open Division Player of the Year as a sophomore. Smith averaged 20.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.9 blocks and 1.9 steals during her senior season, and she finished her career as Etiwanda’s all-time leading scorer.

Etiwanda’s Stan Delus was recognized as the Open Division Coach of the Year for guiding the Eagles to the title.

An additional 20 Inland players were chosen to the first team in the schools’ respective playoff divisions.

Etiwanda had two other players on the Open Division first team: juniors Grace Knox and Aliyahna “Puff” Morris. Joining them on the Open Division first team were Ontario Christian freshman Kaleena Smith and Centennial sophomore center Cydnee Bryant.
