The Inland girls athlete of the week:

Name: Braelyn Combe

School: Santiago

Sports: Track and field

Year: Sophomore

Noteworthy: Combe beat a strong field to capture the championship in the invitational mile event at the prestigious Azusa Meet of Champions Distance Classic last week. She finished the race in a time of 4 minute, 48.47 seconds, a personal best and the top time in the nation by a high school girls runner this year. The field for that event included Combe’s teammate Rylee Blade and Oaks Christian standout Payton Godsey. Earlier this month, Combe won the 800-meter varsity race at the Laguna Trophy Invitational. Combe helped Santiago’s cross country team win the CIF State Division I championship in the fall.
