The Inland girls athlete of the week:

Name: Lyndsey Valverde

School: Chino

Sports: Basketball

Year: Senior

Noteworthy: Valverde, a 5-foot-9 point guard, averaged 15 points, 5.5 assists and 9.5 steals over two games to help the Cowgirls put the final touches on a third consecutive unbeaten Mt. Baldy League championship. Valverde filled the stat sheet with 17 points, six rebounds, six assists and seven steals in a win over Ontario, and she added 13 points, five assists and a career-high 12 steals in a victory over Baldwin Park. Valverde also helped the school’s volleyball team win a share of the Mt. Baldy League title. Chino opens the CIF Southern Section Division 2A playoffs at home Thursday against Corona del Mar.
